Chapter 2 : Heuristic & Bias
According to the film, as an example a scene from the movie 127
hours that explained heuristic is when Aron Ralston leaves his home for hiking
at Utah’s Canyonlands National Park. He did not inform anyone about his trip
there. He did not expect that things happened will put his life on the line because
he thought it will be a short trip.
In this case, heuristic is demonstrated by Aron Ralston to
make a decision by not informing anyone that ended up with him stucked in the
situation.
Bias is the human tendecy to make systematic errors in jugment/ when making decisions based upon certain thinking, thoughts, or preconceived notions.
Illusion of control is one of the 7 types of bias and is well portrayed
in the movie. Aron Ralston overestimated his ability to handle any situation
that he will faced and took the decision not to inform anyone about his trip.
